State-Owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan has asked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to investigate alleged tender rigging in the construction of two coal-fired power plants in East Kalimantan and Riau. The minister arrived at KPK headquarters in South Jakarta on Wednesday to report the graft that allegedly took place in 2010 while Dahlan was president director of state electricity company PT PLN.
"I have asked the KPK to launch an investigation into the two power plants in East Kalimantan and Riau," the minister said as quoted by kompas.com. Former Democratic Party treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin previously accused Dahlan of being involved in the case, saying that he had accepted bribes from the companies that won the two projects. Dahlan denied Nazaruddin's allegation, adding, however, that perhaps some people had used his name to rig the tender.
"I asked them to ensure there was no collusion [in the tender process]," he said. The minister, however, admitted that the projects were rife with irregularities and had, therefore, called on the KPK to probe them.
