The chief warden at Kerobokan Prison is threatening to remove prisoners’ benefits, including awarding remission, if the inmates, including Schapelle Corby, do not do their duties. “Now I have to be strict. If they don’t do what they should be doing, then their benefits will be removed. Don’t ask again about remission or parole,” said chief warden I Gusti Ngurah Wiratna on Wednesday, as reported by Antara news agency.
According to Wiratna, the prison authorities would crack down on any inmate, local or foreign, if they did not fulfill their required duties, including taking part in activities organized in the prison. Corby, who is serving a 20-year sentence for attempting to smuggle 4.2 kilogram of marijuana, has failed to attend various activities organized by the jail, including the Christmas celebration and the ceremony to recognize Kerobokan Prison as a model penitentiary. “Corby was absent for no clear reason. All the regulations have to be followed for rights to be granted,” he said.
