The West Sumatra government through the provincial forestry office will implement a program to reforest arid and denuded lands in that region for this year's budget. Amounting to Rp2.68 billion, the program was to be done in a bid to reduce the number of arid and denuded lands by planting around 1,045, 500 trees in stage for five years, West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno said here on Sunday.
To make the program run as expected, West Sumatra in implementing the 2011-2015 medium and long term development plan has given priority to reducing the area of arid and denuded land concerned. The re-greening of arid and denuded land is to be conducted by planting around 209,100 trees every years. To grow the trees on arid and denuded land, at least Rp1.4 billion in fund was needed for five years to implement the program, he added. (*/M038)
