Bali’s capital Denpasar must be linked with Gilimanuk Port to overcome congestion and mitigate accidents, an official said, as quoted by Antara news agency. Miftachul Munir, the Public Works Ministry’s directorate general of highway road implementation division Denpasar office head, said that the road connecting the two areas was congested. “Therefore, the plan to build the toll road should be realized after a feasibility study,” he said as quoted by Antara.
The toll road is also expected to reduce the high number of traffic accidents along the 140-kilometer route, he said. The realization of this plan depends on the government’s commitment, as well as land acquisition, which has hampered the island’s infrastructure improvements. “We will include this project in a strategic plan, and meet with Bali’s development planning agency to find the best way,” he said, adding that vehicles carrying goods should be separated from those carrying passengers.
