0 One dies from LPG blast

One of the five hospitalized victims from the blast at an illegal liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) warehouse in Buleleng has died despite undergoing intensive care at Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar. Thirty-two-year-old Gede Sumerta of Banjar district died from the severe burns he incurred in the blast. He was referred by the local Buleleng Hospital to Sanglah after the incident.

The other four surviving victims — also key witnesses to the case — remained under treatment at Sanglah’s Burn Unit, with their families waiting. Nyoman Kastawa, brother of one of the victims, was glad the hospital was giving its best service to treat Kadek Gunasa, 30, his younger brother. “He is in a critical condition, but the doctors have pledged to do their best,” he said.

The warehouse owner, Made Sudarmi, said he would cover all the medical expenses for the four. “I promise I’ll pay for the expenses that are not covered by insurance,” Sudarmi said. The warehouse in Banjar Tegal Singaraja, Buleleng regency, exploded Friday evening. The warehouse is believed to have been operating illegally and had been previously raided by the police in 2012.
