Bali has exported aquarium fish to 35 countries, mostly in Europe, valued at around US$1.3 million during the July-December 2013 period. Exports of aquarium fish mostly went to Germany, the UK and France.
According to data from Bali Industry and Trade Agency, new emerging markets for this commodity include South Africa, the US, Russia, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and Japan. Bali’s exports to the UK amounted to $210,233; to Germany $178,000 and France $146,507. However, Bali still relies mostly on the sea for its aquarium fish, which are vulnerable to changing weather conditions.
