0 Security tightened ahead of Imlek

Bali Police headquarters have tightened security in the lead up to the Chinese Lunar New Year, locally known as Imlek, which falls on Friday (tomorrow). Thousands of residents and visitors of Chinese descent will attend special New Year prayers at vihara (Buddhist temples) across Bali starting Thursday night.

Deputy Bali Police chief Brig. Gen I Gusti Ngurah Raharja Subyaktha said Tuesday that Bali would be guarded to provide a peaceful atmosphere for those celebrating Chinese New Year. Recently, a vihara in Jakarta received a bomb threat from an unknown source. Bali has long been a favorite destination for travelers from Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Singapore, Malaysia and China during the Lunar New Year holiday.
